Digestive system drawing/T-shirt

I drew all the parts to this Digestive system on the whiteboard and Owen had labelled the parts

Protein Translation

Me and Owen had done this together

Skeleton picture

Most of the bones on the skeleton have fallen off during the course of the semester, this is mainly due to the fact that it was not taped on properly and it fell and the parts were torn :(

Kidney picture

We Dissected sheep kidneys, the parts that we could see were the renal artery, renal vein, renal pelvis and the ureter!

Protein lab

This was our final product of the protein lab where we put together the strands where each Matched. Me lav and gurkirat worked together for this one.
Shows the peptide bonds with amino acids. All of ours looked different due to different R groups that we all chose.

Digestive System Interesting post

Food does not need gravity to get to your stomach!

The reason being is Peristalsis! In your esophagus when food goes through, it does not just go straight through. Peristalsis moves the food in wave like contractions to push it all the way to the stomach. That is why gravity will not affect the way that the food goes. It will not come back up through your mouth. This can be different however for drinks as they are not a solid object that can be moved with peristalsis. It would be much harder to swallow it, not very safe to try it.

Here is a video of how peristalsis works!

PE buddies reflection

PE leaders -
1.  What adjustments and improvements did you make in your lessons (structure, activities, organization, instructions) from the first lesson to the last one?
In our first lesson we used parachutes and we as a group thought we did a pretty good job with the kids as they were having lots of fun. The improvements that we thought of was that at first we didnt do a very good job at explaining the warm up and so in our next time going to the kids, we made sure to explain all the rules and show with examples. We made activities where more of the seniors could get involved and this made the kids enjoy a lot more.

2.  What was the biggest challenge for your group?  For you?

The biggest challenge for the group was initially thinking of a game to play with the buddies that they will enjoy and make sure to be happy with. A challenge for me at the beginning was finding the energy to get involved with the kids. I finally realized that if I have a negative energy going into the PE class then the kids will have the same.

3.  Describe your favourite moment as a leader and explain why.

My favourite moment was making my Grade 1 Buddy Michael have a good time by playing the games with him. it was enjoyable making him have a good time running around and having positive energy. That is one thing I will miss at the end of this for sure.

4. What do you still need to work on?  What improvements would you make if you were continuing teaching for another month?

Improvements would be to be more clear with instructions. Sometimes I talk to fast for the kids or dont speak in a way that they will understand completely. I could also sometimes be more involved but for the most part I do play with the kids.

PE Buddies -
1.  What are some of the things that you learned being a PE buddy?

I learned from being a buddy that playing with kids and reliving the activities I used to do as a kid could be really enjoyable and that having a buddy can motivate you to work harder and be more disciplined as a student. I learned that it does take a bit of planning to run a PE class even if they are grade 1 and 2's. Have to be ready and prepared in other words

2.  Did your comfort level change over the course of the month?  Why or why not?
I dont think my comfort level changed due to the fact that I think I am very comfortable in many different situations. I just enjoyed the fact that I am comfortable and this made me enjoy playing with the kids more than someone who isnt that comfortable.

3.  What was your favourite part of being a buddy?  Be specific.
Seeing the kids smile and having all of us grade 12's playing with the kids together and doing old school activities even if we are 17 and 18 :)
